Numancia make it 74 years of history

On April 9th 1945 our city had something new to be excited about. Ever since that day, C.D. Numancia have been the principal ambassador for sport in general, and football in particular, for the province of Soria. It has been 74 years of triumphs, let-downs, happy moments and sad ones and, above all, a lot of history behind it all.

Among the achievements which are, after all, the important thing and what has brought us to the point we are at now, we can point to the following: promotion to the Second Division in the 1948-49 season; two seasons in the second tier, 1949-50 and 1950-51; the cup run in 1996 that saw us reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey; promotion to the Second Division in the 1996-97 season; three promotions to the First Division (in 1999-2000, 2003-04 and 2007-08) and four seasons actually spent up in the top flight (1999-2000, 2000-01, 2004-05 and 2008-09). As well as that, Numancia also reached the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey in 2005, thus equalling the 1996 feat in the cup.

Since 1997, the club has held its place within professional football. That is more than 22 years in a row among the elite, leaving behind a period of more than 50 years of wandering in the wilderness, mainly in the Third Division but with spells in Preferente and Regional, as happened in the sixties.

Now, Numancia are a well-established Second Division club. Of all the clubs currently competing in the second tier of Spanish football, ours is the one that has spent most time there. Last season, with Jagoba Arrasate at the helm, Numancia were on the point of going back up to the top flight, but missed out narrowly. This season, the team are fighting to get on board the 50 points needed to assure our place in the division for next year, which is the same objective we start with every campaign.
