Numancia earn a point at El Sadar (0-0)

Sorianos miss penalty and create enough chances to take all three points

Numancia came away with a point from their visit to El Sadar (0-0), a traditionally tough ground in terms of intensity and support from the stands, and could have made it three, but lacked finishing at the key moments despite dominating for most of the game and creating the best goalscoring chances.

Higinio missed a penalty on twenty minutes, one that could have decided the encounter. He was brought down by Rubén after the goalkeeper spilled a shot, but was unable to score from the spot and Rubén made amends for his mistake.

The match began evenly, with Osasuna taking the initiative and looking to threaten with fast moves down the wings and centres in search of someone to put the ball in the net. That was the story of the first twenty minutes. From that moment on, things balanced out and the visiting side started to look more dangerous, with intensity from Numancia cancelling out the hosts in midfield, leading to three clear chances, including the penalty.

López Garai's side dominated the game, but not the areas. The two home midfielders, Oier and Íñigo Pérez, were shown yellow cards as they battled against the dominant Sorianos. In the opponents’ area, though, it was a different story, as both Yeboah and Fran Villalba could have opened the scoring for the visitors in the same move but failed to. Yeboah shot and Rubén parried as best he could the Ghanaian’s shot, but the rebound fell to Fran Villalba who, with everything in his favour, skied it. It would have been a nice finish for Unai Medina’s move down the right wing, but Villalba’s attempt was well wide of the mark.

Numancia, more fluent and precise than their hosts throughout the first half, had one last chance before the break but Rubén’s reflexes kept an attempt from Diamanka, palming the ball wide.

In the second half, the match was evenly balanced again, but neither Osasuna produced the football to break the deadlock nor did Numancia have the serenity to complete the attacking moves they created. Nacho had two shots from the edge of the area stopped by Rubén with few problems, and Yeboah had a chance provided to him by Escassi, but his shot was not successful either and the game ended as it had begun, 0-0.
