CD Laredo return to Soria 30 years after first visit

Sorianos and Laredanos met for the first time in Numancia's first season in Segunda B, in 1989

A bitterly cold wind was blowing in Soria on December 3rd 1989 when CD Laredo visited Los Pájaritos for the first time. The Municipal ground in Soria had only been inaugurated a few months earlier, and Numancia were taking their first steps in Segunda B (the third tier of Spanish football), after winning promotion from Tercera the previous season.

Laredo will be back tomorrow, thirty years later. They are coming for the first round of the play-offs for promotion to Segunda B and will meet the Rojillos again, only this time it will be the reserves, Numancia B, whom they face.

In that 1989-90 season, the Laredanos won both the league games they played against Numancia. The fixture at Los Pajaritos, on December 3rd, saw them take the points with a two-nil victory over their hosts, while they ran out winners in the return at San Lorenzo, this time by a two-one scoreline.

That season, Numancia had players such as Toño Alfageme, currently part of the youth structure, as well as Pinky, Chus Martínez, Tobi, Fierro, Félix, Raúl, Carlos Pérez, Peloncho, Lucas, Monzón and a very young Pacheta.

Despite these adverse results, Numancia ended up staving off relegation that season, while Laredo went down to Tercera División, the fourth tier.

The nineties was a decade in Numancia’s history that has turned out to be unforgettable.
